1930s Regal "Gumby" Reverse-Scroll Flatback Mandolin

I've worked on a bunch of these old "gumby" or "smurf hat" Regal mandolins in the past, but my guy Tim did all the work on this one for the most-part. It's had a neck reset, fret level/dress, binding repairs, a replacement pickguard, brace repairs, and setup work done. These have doweled neck joints so they can be a little tricky to reset if you're not used to them. It was pretty fun for me to show Tim how very curious they are during the reset work...!

Fixed-up, these make great folksy/rootsy pickers and have a nice, dry, midsy "pop" to their sound for chordal backing. This one happens to be spruce over birch (solid) but many of these are birch throughout and have no binding. This one's a bit spiffier than normal.
