1930s Regal-Made Dobro-Cone Resonator Guitar
This unmarked, Dobro-looking resonator is a Regal-made product that was often sold under various brands. It doesn't have the iconic "square shoulders" Dobro shape but, rather, uses Regal's L-00-looking body shape instead. Anyhow, this one was sent-in for repair and, while it has a nice old brass coverplate, the cone and saddles and bridge are all new. It needed a neck reset, fret level/dress (tricky because the neck is so warped, but we managed to ameliorate a lot of that), and lots of glorified setup work to get it to behave. I did the reset but Jose did most of the finishing-work -- fitting a new nut, the fretwork, and saddle work.
We had to tweak the cone a little bit to get it to seat far-enough rear to allow for good intonation, though -- just as you might expect to have to do one one of these old guys (I have never seen one where the cone's center was where the saddle was supposed to be).
Suffice to say, it's turned-out a decent player with a really nice, full sound.
