1951 Gibson J-45 Slope Dreadnought Guitar

This beaut is a J-45 that a customer bought from Archtop.com recently. It has overspray throughout and an oversize bridge, but despite that it has the goods. It was sold as a "not quite 100%" instrument but it was playable after a fashion. Work included a neck reset, new bone saddle, fret seating and a level/dress, and setup work. Post-repairs it's playing bang-on and sounding much more lively and punchy.

Interestingly, the neck is slightly thinner at the nut than usual for the year and it has a faster feel than normal. I've encountered others from '51 and '52 with the same thing going on and I sometimes wonder about it. Odd day with the sander... or a customer request?
