1980 Alvarez-Yairi DY-45 "Shadetop" Dreadnought Guitar
Local antiques-picker Trevor found this D-18-a-like Alvarez-Yairi and I bought it from him as-is. One of my buddies did some horse-trading with me and procured it for himself after I gave it a neck reset and levele/dress of the frets and setup. It's got a K&K pickup in it, now, too, so it's gig-ready! Said buddy swapped-over to a different animal, so this is back here in the shop.
These have solid spruce tops with a cool "shadetop" or "brownburst" finish and D-18-style trimmings. While the board and bridge are stained dark, they're rosewood. The back and sides are ply mahogany. This model is very well-respected and this one is quite a nice example. It shows some wear and tear here and there but overall it's in very good shape for its age, has plenty of saddle height, and is good to go.
Tonewise, it sounds pretty-much like a D-18 but with a little more cut in the mids and highs and less velvet in the lower-mids and highs. It's a little more aggressive and plainspoken, I think, than the average D-18. Alvarez-Yairis have a good following out there in the world (I've met you people -- you can talk my ears off extolling the virtues of the various models and years -- you folks are great!) and for good reason -- they're well-built, handle nicely when setup correctly, and are dependable, workhorse-style instruments.

Condition notes: it's pretty clean for one of these. There are small scuffs, nicks, scratches, and dings here and there but they're not very visible at all. It looks more like a 5-year-old instrument than a 44-year-old one. The satin finish looks great.
It comes with: sorry, no case.
