1989 Fender Japan Precision Bass Lyte Electric Bass Guitar

This P-Bass Lyte totally looks just like the year it was made. It's got a downsized body, lots of contours, an iced-tea/sienna-burst finish, black knobs, and gold hardware. It's weird, it plays great, and it's got the P/J pickup combo all the cool kids have been rocking the last couple decades.

That said, when it got here, it had some dead active pickups installed. After trying to get them up and running again, the owner and I decided to just rewire it for passive pickups instead. I put a pair of DiMarzios in -- with a humbucking bridge pickup -- and wired it with full-size 500k pots rather than the deranged-looking minis that had been soldered half a dozen times.

Anyhow, it was nice to see this bass back up and running with a sound somewhere between what the active EMGs would have sounded like and what the original loadout would have sounded like.
