1960s Suzuki Spruce/Maple Bowlback Mandolin

Curiously-enough, bowlback mandolins and mandolin orchestra stuff is fairly popular in Japan to this day. This bowlback probably dates to the late '60s or early '70s and, while it has no mark, it's identical to other Japanese-made Suzuki bowlbacks I've worked-on in the past. This one's relatively nice, though, with the Italian-style wide armrest/tail cover and lots of maple ribs. The purfling on the edge of the top is good-looking, too.

Suffice to say, it was playing like garbage when it arrived. Tim did a great job with a heavy-handed level/dress of the frets and some bridge modification to get it playing well and in tune. It should be good to go for a long while, now!
