1990s Hohner Gruhn Design F-1 Small Jumbo Guitar

Overview: These "Gruhn Design" guitars were thought-up by Mr. George Gruhn and then built by Hohner in Korea. This one dates to the early '90s and I've worked on one or two others in the past and they're respectable, good-looking, great-sounding instruments.

Tone: It's clean, balanced, and punchy-sounding with plenty of volume. It's got great note separation.

Feel: The neck is quick and easy with a flatter board radius and D-shaped rear profile.

Interesting features: This model has a J-185-style body shape (small jumbo) but with a long scale length. That gives it a Gibson-meets-Guild sort of vibe. It's not as woody-sounding as a J-185 but it's also got more snap which suits band use nicely.

Repairs included: Ancel replaced a split original bridge with a taller, Madagascar rosewood one. He then fit a new bone saddle, leveled/dressed the frets, and set it all up. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
