1930s More Harmony (Regal) 7-String Squareneck Hawaiian Guitar

Overview: For pure eye-popping '30s style, this Regal-made Hawaiian guitar sure has it in spades! It's got a double-sunburst, faux-woodgrain-painted, stencil-tastic top. I mean -- how do you not love such a beast? Next-up, it's a factory, 7-string acoustic Hawaiian squareneck guitar. I barely ever see such things out in the wild. I wasn't very creative with the tuning and had Jose string it for a mix of "low bass G" and "Dobro G" tunings -- DGBDGBD low to high. I know that Hawaiian and steel players will find their own niche stringing options to tune it to (I mean, it came in with a re-entrant first string), but this felt like a good start.

Tone: Per the usual for a smaller birch-top Hawaiian, it's both punchy and sing-songy with a good midrange and scooped bass and high-treble. It'll cut just fine.

Feel: It's a squareneck -- the strings are raised quite a bit. That said, the flat back of the neck makes lap position playing a heck of a lot more comfortable than roundneck "conversion" options.

Interesting features: First-off, it's very clean and all-original. Second -- the tuners? Semi-translucent amber? Nice! Third -- the finish? How can one not enjoy such a clever display of stencil-work in the paint with the "double sunburst" and deco-style white edging. Topping it off with faux-woodgrain finish everywhere is a nice touch as well.

Repairs included: Jose and I tweaked the saddle slot and pinhole ramping but otherwise it was good to go when it arrived.

Condition notes: It's very clean throughout and has no cracks except for a shallow dryness hairline along the bridge pin holes. It's holding-pat, however, so all we did was fill it a hair and touch-up the color. There may be small scuffs/scrapes/scratches here and there in the finish but overall it's surprising how clean it is.

It comes with: It has an old, original chip case.
