1954 Gibson LG-3 00-Size Guitar

Overview: It doesn't get much cleaner than this, eh? It's got no cracks, it's all original save the saddle and tuner buttons, has its original brown hard case, and it sounds top-notch. A local player's wife bought this as a gift for him at a yard sale decades ago and, unfortunately for him, it never got much play! Fortunately for us, that means it arrived in excellent health save the need for a neck reset and glorified setup work. For those not in the know, an LG-3 is the same as an LG-2 except for its natural-finished top.

Tone: It's clean, clear, balanced, and woody all at the same time. It's got a good, dry, punch to it that easily sings-through a mix. Fingerpickers will like the clarity and flatpickers will like the carrying power and flexibility despite the smaller body size.

Feel: This has the Gibson neck that everyone's looking for -- medium-C in heft with a 1 11/16" nut width and 10" board radius.

Interesting features: The excellent condition is the most notable feature. The finish has weather-checked all over just so and so while it's got the good looks, it also feels comfortably lived-in.

Repairs included: I gave it a neck reset and Ancel leveled/dressed the frets, made a new saddle, and set it up. One of us may have reglued a few loose back brace ends, too.

Condition notes: It is completely original except for new tuner buttons and a new bone saddle. The original saddle had been shaved-down and was no longer useful. The original tuner buttons were shrunken and breaking. There's weather-checking throughout the finish. There are no cracks that I have found at all. There may be tiny evidence of usewear here and there in the form of small scratches, nicks, and dings, but I'm not seeing anything I notice.

It comes with: It has its original, brown, Gibson-branded, hard case.
