1960s Guyatone LG-150T (Modded) Electric Guitar

Overview: I worked on/bought/sold this guitar back in 2021 and into 2022 and at the time it was "more or less original." It's been out in the world and gigging since then with a different owner and acquired a new pickguard and a pair of GFS "goldfoil" single-coil pickups via the esteemed Mr. Jason Twigg-Smith while it was away from the shop. Its new owner has since retired it and so it's back here for sale. Suffice to say, I've always loved this guitar (as I'm a fan of Mosrites and this is about like a Mosrite but extreme in styling) and I'm pretty excited that it returned here in such a cool format. For those not in the know, the Guyatone brand was used on a variety of Japanese-import instruments, but this particular model style (Mosrite-flavored) is many steps above the rank and file instruments they built en masse.

Tone: It's got a clean, even, easy, Fender-like sound to it that's perhaps a little fatter in the mids than a normal Strat-style single coil pickup sound. It works perfectly for the surfy or avante-garde stuff it looks like it should be playing and the sound/feel of the whammy is top-notch.

Feel: The neck is super-fast with a slim, oval, modern profile and curvy fretboard. It's very Mosrite in nature.

Interesting features: The "reverse" body style fits in the lap nicely and "hugs" you in close so the neck does not feel like it stretches on into infinity. The "German carve" to the top contours is pretty hip, too, and it has just enough wear and tear to elicit feelings of cozy fondness from the player. It feels like a nicely worn-on baseball mitt.

Repairs included: Previously, I gave it a level/dress of the frets and a bunch of setup tweaking. Since then a new pickguard and pickups were installed and spliced into the old wiring. Since it's been back again, all I had to do was set it all up again and make minor adjustments. It plays a treat and is ready to roll.

Condition notes: It's got a bunch of obvious usewear via nicks and dings and scratches. The pickguard, frets, and pickups are replaced and the tuners and strap buttons are replacement Gotoh repro units, too -- though everything else is original. The string tree bar at the nut is cranked-down to keep the strings in place at the nut. This was built with a very lo break-angle at the headstock and so having said bar cranked is necessary to keep it clean. It makes it slightly more annoying to restring or adjust the truss rod, but I can't even remember the last time the rod needed adjusting so I think you're in luck, there... this is a nice, stable guitar. There's a bunch of finish checking/crackle around the neck joint/pocket area.

It comes with: It has a nice, newer, Gator gigbag.
