2000s Yamaha FG-720S-12 12-String Jumbo Guitar
Overview: I took this guitar as a trade-in, recently, and luckily all it needed was a good setup and some extra compensation at the saddle. Yamaha product design is good stuff and this simple, entry-level 12-string is just that -- it has a good sound afforded by a solid top and a body shape and detailing that echoes all of the FG-series 12-strings made from the late '60s straight through the '80s and into the '90s. It's a jumbo/super-dreadnought shape that always yields a big sound.
Tone: It's clean, has plenty of volume, and is balanced low to high. It's got plenty of that 12-string shimmer and sparkle.
Feel: The neck is significantly more comfortable than historical Yamaha 12-strings and it plays nice and quick. I'd say it's roughly comparable to the way new Martin 12-strings handle.
Interesting features: It's got a solid top, binding all over the place, and even has individual sealed tuners. How about that? It also has a K&K pickup installed under the hood so it's gig-ready.
Repairs included: I just gave it a restring, added string ramps behind the saddle to give more back-angle on the saddle (and so improve tone), and compensated the saddle a little better during setup. It plays quick and easy and is ready to go.
