2015 Martin GPCPA4 Rosewood Cutaway Jumbo Guitar
Overview: This "M-size" cutaway jumbo is one of Martin's Performing Artist-series instruments. It's got solid spruce over solid rosewood in the body, a modern "narrow dovetail" joint, and lightish bracing that gives it a good, full, retro sound. It's got a fast neck, it's easy on the eyes, and it's played-in enough to feel like you won't be doing it a disservice by playing it out on the town.
Tone: It's warm, rich, and full-sounding with the sort-of scooped mids and highs that rosewood Martins can have.
Feel: The neck is quick and easy with a modern, slim C profile and average, 14" board radius.
Interesting features: It has a Guild-like bridge with "darts" on the back edge that looks pretty slick. It's also got an onboard pickup system with preamp and undersaddle transducer with knobs and a display at the bass waist on the side. This is a rarer model that actually has solid rosewood back and sides (I checked by removing the battery and jack port and also saw it was solid when I was resetting the neck), too, as opposed to the veneer/ply back and sides a lot of similar Martins have.
Repairs included: I gave it a neck reset (which was trying due to the way these are glued) and also added a couple of reinforcement bolts at the neckblock (as the dovetail was a little sloppy despite being CNC-cut). Jose then gave it a level/dress of the frets, cut a new bone saddle, and set it all up. It's got tons of saddle height left for future adjustments and plays a treat.
