1924 Johann Georg Kessler (Germany) 4/4 Violin

Overview: This is an excellently-built, quality violin made in Markneukirchen in Germany and is dated 1924 on its label. I'm presuming it's a "copy of" a Kessler violin as said maker passed-on more than 120 years before this was built. Anyhow, its owner picked it up from a reputable violin dealer many moons ago and now she's reducing her collection. She played it a lot and it had been setup decently when it arrived, though Andy did a full set of adjustments on it and no it's even better.

Tone: It's clear, balanced, has good volume, and is easy to hear the note on. It doesn't slur too much like a fiddle more-suited to double-stop playing. Still, it's got nice warmth to the bottom-end as well.

Feel: The neck is pretty traditional and has a little bit more depth than a typical modern violin and is slightly narrower -- 13/16" vs 14/16" -- at the nut than average.

Interesting features: The finish is lightly-applied and has a nice, medium-red-brown color to it. The build is accurately-cut and clean throughout and it has nice, flamed maple for the back and sides and ebony fittings. The tailpiece appears original, though the pegs and chinrest are likely later additions.

Repairs included: Andy gave it a good, thorough setup and it's playing bang-on and ready to serve.
