1970s Yamaha FG-340 Jumbo Guitar

Overview: Per the label in the soundhole, this appears to be a late-'70s or early-'80s Taiwan-made Yamaha jumbo guitar. It's the FG-340 model and that means it has the "look" of a D-35 on its backside and a few cosmetic upgrades compared to the venerable FG-180 or the like.

Tone: It's big, warm, and full with slightly-scooped highs -- perfect fare for chord-strumming and mellow (but loud) fingerpicking.

Feel: Like most old Yamahas, the neck profile is sort-of similar to the heft of a '60s or '70s Martin -- a medium-full C with a shallower, 14" board radius.

Interesting features: These old Yamahas are all-ply through the bodies and have functional, sturdy necks. As a result, after age-related work has been done (neck resets, fretwork, and whatnot), they become almost perfect "everyday knock-about" instruments as they're so reliable and don't move-around much with changing weather. I still think they're some of the best guitars to have if you're the sort-of player who travels a lot or can't keep up with humidity control as the seasons change.

Repairs included: It's had a neck reset from me and, as I recall, Jose gave it a level/dress job on the frets, fit a saddle, and set it up. It's ready to roll and playing quick.
