2010 Martin OM-21 000-Size Guitar
Overview: This recent OM-21 is a pure picker's sort-of guitar. It has punch and carrying power combined with the familiar, velvety, Martin tone. Compared to a normal 000, an OM version of the same body tends to have more cut, snap, and overall volume due to the longer scale length and scalloped bracing. They tend to be a little less mellow and relaxed both in tone and feel, though.
Tone: It's gutsy, punchy, loud, and even-sounding. There's a bit of that Martin "velvet" in the mids, however.
Feel: The neck handling is like a modern Martin dreadnought -- long scale but with a slimmer neck profile -- though it's 1 3/4" at the nut which makes it a better fit for those of the fingerpicking persuasion who want wider string spacing.
Interesting features: Per the usual, the long scale makes it a different animal from the usual 000. It also has the cool "teardrop" pickguard shape. Its appointments (aside from the rosewood back and sides) are the same as an 18-series instrument, giving a more trim, less-ostentations look as compared to a 28-series instrument that it more closely sounds like.
Repairs included: All I had to do was give it a quick setup and it's playing spot-on and ready to go.
