1927 Sylvarus Brady 4/4 Violin
Overview: Here's a nice, old, American-made fiddle from Cambridge, MA. This one looks entirely homebrew, though a log or two on Brady instruments on the net notes that perhaps the necks on these are bought-in by the maker. In any case, it's a good, Strad-style instrument with a lower arch to the top and back and a gorgeous, one-piece, flamed maple back.
Tone: It's clean, easy, has a hair of huskiness, and is nice and responsive.
Feel: The neck is a quick, slim-D profile with a thinner-depth fingerboard.
Interesting features: The orange finish had some cool patina to it and the color really brings out the figure of the back and sides maple. The scroll carve and overall carve are well-done and respectable.
Repairs included: Andy fit a new bridge, repaired a few seams, and gave it setup work and fussing. It's playing spot-on and is ready to serve.
