1969 Framus 5/51 Studio Electrified Archtop Guitar
Overview: This started-off here at the shop as a clean, all-original Framus 5/51 -- a parlor-sized archtop guitar, all-ply in the body and with cute, curvy looks and stylized f-holes. This one made in '69, features their latter-era, bolted-on neck made of super-multi-ply maple. Those in the know will recognize that these necks are super-stable, comfy and very practical to boot. Because these sound ok as acoustics but not great, while we were about fixing it up to play spot-on we also electrified it with a simple volume/jack wiring harness and Alnico lipstick-style pickup fit at the neck. The result is a fast-playing, great-looking box suited-well to electric rhythm playing.
Tone: It's chimey, bright, and clean but will overdrive with a nice "burr" to the sound. If you're into Danos, you will like this.
Feel: It has a quick, sort-of-Fendery-feeling neck profile with a narrower 1 5/8" nut width and a Gibson-like, 10" board radius.
Interesting features: The stylized f-holes look great, as does the maple ply veneer used throughout the body. The redburst finish is ete-catching, too.
Repairs included: Sarah gave it a level/dress of the frets and setup and I fit the pickup and wiring harness. It had adjustable saddles so one could set it up with whatever string gauges, wound/unwound G that is desired -- but it's currently setup with electric 10s with an unwound G. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
