2005 Martin Custom D Rosewood Dreadnought Guitar
Overview: Martin makes so many "alternate versions" of instruments these days that it can be hard to keep track of them. This one is a "Custom D Rosewood" meaning it's similar in construction to a 15-series instrument (bolted/slim dovetailed neck joint and simpler bracing) but has a solid spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides. The fretboard and bridge are, likewise, Indian rosewood (or similar) of a nice, ruddy-brown color like you'd see on 1940s Regal fretboards.
Tone: It sounds an awful lot like a D-28, to be honest -- it's big, full, warm, and round. It's also dang loud.
Feel: The neck is a modern, slim-C/oval profile and quick and easy.
Interesting features: It has just the right amount of nice, honest playwear to give it a lived-in, loved-in feel and look. It's also got tortoise binding on the top edge which is something I'm always into on a Martin and is something you almost never see on a rosewood-backed Martin. I like the spare, simple, D-18-a-like look of this guitar and the satin finish feels nice and modern without looking tacky.
Repairs included: I gave it a quick level/dress of the frets and a setup. It's playing bang-on and ready to roll.
