1996 Taylor 412-K 000-Size Guitar

Overview: Taylor calls these guitars "Grand Concert" models, but to the layman, they're a take on the venerable OM design -- long scale, with a 000-size body. This mid-'90s version has the older bolt-on neck design and a pinless bridge which reminds me a lot of Ovation bridges. It's a good-looking box that has the advantage of also having some pretty, solid Hawaiian koa used in the back and sides. The clearcoat has also aged-in enough to give the guitar a "buttery" warm look, too.

Interesting features: The 3-piece koa back (which is fit like on a Martin D-35) is a nice touch as far as styling goes. It also has the quick neck that Taylors are known for, though with a wider 1 3/4" nut width which will suit fingerpickers just dandy. The combination of long scale and a body that accentuates mids and upper-mids yields a snappy, up-front guitar that cuts well and is very balanced.

Repairs included: It got a level/dress of the frets and setup by Ancel and it's playing bang-on and ready to go.

It comes with: It has its original Taylor hard case.
