2005 Gibson SG Supreme "Lavaburst" Electric Guitar

Overview: This is another trade-deal arrival. I'd done a bit of work on this years ago and it was still playing swell when it arrived back, but I did need to do a little cleaning and setup work this time around. SG Supremes are still made and sit at the higher-end of the SG lineup, though for a while they were sort-of out of production as I recall. They're slick-looking guitars, carrying the traditional SG look forward with Trini Lopez-like inlay in the fretboard, snazzy finish options over flamed-maple tops (this one has a "lavaburst" finish), gold hardware, and upscale appointments.

Interesting features: Well, first-off, the finish is stand-out! You're not going to miss the look of this one from across a venue. It's also got a great sound -- thanks to vintagey-wound buckers -- and a good feel. To my hands, this one handles a lot like an early-'60s SG in neck profile.

Repairs included: I'd previously leveled and dressed the frets and set it up. This time around it just needed minor setup tweaks, new strings, and a little cleaning. It's playing spot-on and ready to serve.

Condition notes: It definitely has some playwear (light to medium) throughout, with small scratches, nicks and dings here and there. It still looks grand but it's obvious it's been played a while. I know the owner well and it would be surprising if he hadn't gigged it a whole bunch. There's some finish blem around the inlay in the headstock veneer, plating wear on all the hardware, and the caps of the volume and tone knobs are missing (though I have repros of these knobs hanging around if you'd like new knobs). Overall, though, it's a good-looking piece of kit! Oh -- and someone put straplocks on it for the strap buttons.

It comes with: It has its original hard case.
