1946 Gibson LG-2 00-Size Guitar
Overview: This was sold as a 1946 to my consignor but it may be an early 1947. It has no factory order number or serial number, though it's definitely postwar but still with the older Gibson script logo at the headstock. The sunburst is on the wider side and it's a little more black at the edges, so it's probably a later '46 or early '47. It's a killer-sounding guitar now that it's fixed-up and it has a good, loved-in look about it.
Interesting features: The three-ply top binding is pretty slick and it has a great, vibrant sunburst. The finish is weather-checked throughout and flaking at the headstock and pretty-much removed at the back of the neck, which gives it that classic player's look. It has period tuner plates with replacement ('50s) buttons and Ancel refretted it during work, so it has a healthy, modern feel in the frets. For kicks, we used a '70s-era, Gibson-branded, pearloid truss cover. The bridge is new (Madagascar rosewood) and has a drop-in saddle for convenience. It's definitely a warhorse of an old guitar!
Repairs included: When it came here, the neck had been sloppily-reset too steep and a massive, super-tall bridge was fit. Conversely, there were already a number of well-repaired side cracks with long. Ancel had to re-reset the neck, cut and fit a new bridge, repair a number of loose braces and seams, and make a new nut and saddle, as well as whatever other multitude of small trials were involved getting this one back into shape. As I recall, the neck joint was a mess after the old "repair" and quite the pain to get sorted, but it is, now. It's playing spot-on, is healthy, and has plenty of saddle height for future adjustments.

Condition notes: Please check out the pics! First off, this has a replacement mahogany bridge plate. There are a number of old side crack repairs that stretch long ways on the bass side of the instrument -- all sturdily-fixed and I've taken photos of them. There's a lot of finish wear and tear -- scratches, scuffs, etc. throughout and small nicks and dings here and there. The finish is essentially off of the back of the neck except for a clearcoat someone wiped-on. It's flaked around the edges of the back/side seam and around the heel and at the headstock. Aside from the clearcoat on the back of the neck, it all appears original. There's weather-check throughout the finish, too. The bridge is a replacement but made from Madagascar rosewood, which looks a lot like Brazilian. It has a replacement saddle and nut (both bone) and new, medium-taller frets. The tuner plates may be original but the buttons are '50s ones from another set of tuners. The truss rod cover is a '70s Gibson one. There's a little bit of muck-up filler at the edges of the neck joint from where it had been ill-fit in the past.
It comes with: It does not officially have a case, yet, but I will provide one before it ships.
