1970 Harmony Stella H929-3/4 Parlor Guitar

Overview: This is the cleaner of a pair of these that arrived via trade. It's a cute little thing but needed a bit of work (as usual for old Harmony products) to become its best self. These were marketed as the 3/4 version of the venerable Harmony H929 Stella parlor guitar (usually a tailpiece instrument) and, unlike their bigger siblings, these small guys shipped with bolted-on "pin bridge" style bridges. The issue there is that they don't intonate well, for starters, and the bodies are more-suited to a tailpiece load anyhow. During repair, we converted this one over to a tailpiece setup.

Interesting features:  It's got a very short 21 1/2" scale so we've also strung it up with lighter strings and tuned it up G-to-G over E-to-E standard tuning -- what's called "terz" tuning as it's a minor 3rd up from standard. It can be strung heavier (think: mediums) and tuned E-to-E but it's not near as fun in that capacity. I also like these tuned to "Nashville" tuning/stringing. Per the usual for a Stella of this style, it's solid birch throughout the body and has a woody, chimey tone.

Repairs included: I reset the neck, replaced a missing middle brace on the top, reglued a couple of back-brace ends and seams, and then turned it over to Jose to do a level/dress of the frets, new bridge fitting, tailpiece fitting, and setup work. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
