1972 Fender Fretless Precision Bass Electric Bass Guitar

Overview: This lovely old thing is a pretty-dang-clean, original fretless neck, Precision Bass. Its serialization makes it a '71 or a '72 and the owner bought it as a '71 from the last shop but I'm guesstimating it to be more like a '72. The neck pocket and neck are not helpful on this account. At any rate, it's completely original throughout (save a vintage bridge cover Ancel stuck on) save for, perhaps, the nut -- and it's quite a player.

Interesting features: The sunburst finish is pretty glorious-looking, I think, especially against that cool old tortoise pickguard. The neck is fast but still more substantial front to back so it feels a bit more "homey" than modern Jazz-style fretless necks which can be teensy-tiny. It has "the sound" and will do the "mwah" honey-like thing if'n you want -- but is also a good choice for "thump-thump" backup.

Repairs included: Ancel gave it a deep setup and a bit of board plane at the fretboard extension area where it was really rutting-out before. It's ready to go and playing nicely. In one set of pics the bridge saddles are really low but I've since added a tiny shim in the pocket and brought them up as-normal.

Condition notes: It appears to be all-original throughout save for the bridge cover we added from our parts stash. The finish is in good shape but does have a few areas where it's flaked-off (horns) and those are pictured -- and it also has the customary fine-line weather-checking throughout, too, but not severe.

It comes with: It's got a good hard case.
