2024 Orator 1x12" Tube Combo Amp
My buddy Winfield is Orator Amplification and when he built this one (the very first of this Orator line) for a customer of his, he was based in Burlington, Vermont. He's now way out west in Colorado and, it seems, has settled-in and is back up and doing repairs and builds again.
It's a bit hard to describe how excellent these amps are -- the sounds flit around between tweedy, Voxy, and Marhsally depending on how you set your various knobs. It's built to break-up in the nicest of ways -- and it does -- but the clean to "edge of breakup" sound is glorious as well. The three-position "voice" switch changes the tone a fair amount and the treble and bass knobs give you a lot of leeway to tweak. In addition, there's a hi-cut knob on the back to help remove shrill if you've got an uber-bright guitar.
I will ask Winfield but I think these amps run in the 15-25w range. They have plenty of power but play nicely in a room with other players (rather than over other players).
Nice details include custom front and back panels, point-to-point wiring, premium components, and a cool-as-heck cab design. It's '30s retro mixed with '60s retro -- stylish! -- and it even has a blacksmith-forged handle for the top.
This amp has clearly gotten some play under its belt since it was built -- as evidenced by a little wear and tear to the control panel and tolex here and there and a little rubbing on the grill cloth -- but it operates like a new amp.
I will try to get a video demo done of this soon!
