2010s Hinde 5-String Electric Mandolin

Overview: I got this cool electric mandolin in trade. Steve Hinde builds all sorts of mandolins -- from F-5 style right over to curious, 5-string electrics like this mini-Tele-friend example. As a fan of Western Swing, I adore single-course mandolins and their unique, slightly-jazz-guitar flavoring. This 5-string would fit right in and features a low C in addition to the normal GDAE strings.

Interesting features: It's got an ash body, super-figured maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and good build quality. The finish is nice and the blackguard, almost G&L-looking style, is a fun take. The neck has a good adjustable rod, the frets feel modern, it has a radiused fretboard, and the pickup is pretty balanced. The A is still a little hot (as it is on most emandos) but not as brutal as most. The dual-rail humbucker has a clean, bright, but sweet sound to it that's easy on the ars.

Repairs included: I gave it a good setup and adjustments but that was all it needed. It's playing bang-on and ready to go.
