1960s Silvertone 612 (Harmony) 000-Size X-Brace Conversion Guitar

Overview: This beat-up old Silvertone 612 is like the Silvertone-branded take on a Harmony H162, save that the back and sides are solid birch instead of mahogany. Harmony built it, of course. This one dates from the early to mid-'60s and arrived as the usual down-on-its-luck old guitar. Ancel did it over completely, however, and it's now fully-rebraced in a single-tonebar, x-braced pattern. The braces are laminated (fir and a thin lamination of carbon fiber) which lets them be quite lightweight but very stiff. As a result, the guitar sounds like a cross between good examples of a Gibson LG-2 and a Martin 000-18, though the birch back and sides add a little of that '30s maple-backed L-00 flavor. It's punchy, woody, full, and up-front in tone. Additional upgrades like new frets, a better-than-factory bridge, and reliable new tuners make it a good choice for a daily player.

Repairs included: It's had its top bracing converted to an x-pattern, the back braces are the top braces reshaped and reused, it's had a neck reset and board plane and refret, a new bridge was fit, new tuners were fit, and new pins and saddle were fit. Several old cracks in the top and back have been repaired, too. It's playing spot-on and is ready to roll! Ancel did a tremendous job on this one...
