1920s Weymann Orchestra Style 3 Resonator Tenor Banjo
I forgot to take a snap of the serialization, but I expect this banjo is a mid-'20s affair. It's stamped as a Style 3 and features the "Orchestra" rim design with its cool, archtop tonering and sloped interior walls. It has some features of a Style 4, however -- all that engraved, gold-plated hardware, for example -- that maybe bump it up to more like a Style 3 3/4. It's a beautifully-made instrument and has a sweet, springy sound with plenty of pop and power if you leave it undamped.
The flamed maple used throughout the build is gorgeous stuff and the slightly-stained finish that brings it out is typical of Weymann's aesthetics. Where Vega would have left that natural, Weymann usually stained things just a bit. The pearl-inlaid flange area is also classy as heck.
It was just in for repairs -- Jose gave it a level/dress of the frets and a setup -- and it's playing like a champ, now.
