1930s Kurt Monnig 4/4 Violin

This is a Kurt Monnig (made in Germany) violin built for William Moennig & Son (a US retailer) instrument, per its label. The owner thinks it's a '40s instrument but I'm guessing it's a little earlier per the label style. It's in fantastic condition and has a rich varnish with impeccably-cut details and nice, figured maple throughout the back and sides. It sounds even, balanced, and full with very little overtone nonsense thrown-in.

Manny planed the fingerboard, fit a bridge, fit a chinrest, fit new geared pegs (Wittners), and set it up for its owner. It's a shame I didn't get a video clip because it really does have quite the sound.

Moennig & Son were a family retailer with history stretching for a hundred years from 1909 to around 2010, when they closed their doors. Check out this link with info...
