1933 Selmer-Maccaferri Tenor Guitar
When the owner of this tenor told me he was bringing it for a spa day, I was super-excited. We haven't had an original Selmer through the shop before because they're scarce. We've had plenty of modern interpretations, though, and many of them truly high-end critters.
He bought this one down at Music Emporium and it had a bunch of good repairwork done by Mr. Martin Tremblay, already. It was playing on-spec with everything done and was only here because the owner swapped gauges to use it in GDAE tuning and it was sounding a little weird with the new strings. A few minor tweaks later and it was back to rights.
I'm not going to argue with getting a chance to pick a bit on a D-hole Selmer, though! To me they epitomize cool in an acoustic. I love the mix of curves on these instruments.
This one still has its baffle soundhole elements installed and it sounds an absolute treat -- saucy, loud, and punchy. These work best with a ton of power put into them with the right hand, though you still get a ton of bite even with a relaxed rhythm style.
Per the usual for one of these, it's solid spruce over ply rosewood.
