1980 Gibson Flying V2 Electric Guitar
A local fella brought this in for his father to get it checked-out and adjusted as-needed. It didn't need much -- just some compensation adjustment at the bridge and minor setup tweaks. But can we address the elephant in the room... what the heck is this hippie-flavored piece of V, anyway?
Apparently these V2 models are rather rare and they're definitely a late-'70s/early-'80s interpretation of what a jam band might want out of a Flying V rather than the typical rawk-monster Vs from yesteryear. To that end, they're fit with a much more sculpted body shape, pointy headstock, and a pair of single-coil-sounding pickups that have to be split-coils with that housing shape.
It sounds like a Strat when you plug it in, which is the oddest experience when you expect it to sound like a rawk machine with the way it looks. But, no, these are clean and chimey pickups and it begs to be put to use as a kick-butt rhythm guitar!
