2010s Veillette Avante Gryphon High-Tuned 12-String Guitar
Overview: My friends Mike and Kathy bought this some time back and had me set it up as a small-body 12-string, tuned to standard pitch, when they first got it -- and I compensated the saddle and adjusted it to work with bigger gauges for that tuning. The builder intends these to be tuned DGCFAD (low to high) with unison stringing just under an octave higher than normal guitar tuning. I really like the sound of the octave strings, though, and the saddle is already compensated for them, so this time around I set it up with a very light 12-string set and tuned it up like a 12-string capo'd on the 5th fret -- ADGCEA low to high. This is just not getting use anymore so it was brought back in for resale. I've had 3 or 4 of these Gryphons through the shop at this point and all of them have been quite stable and sound and play like champs. I hadn't seen this one for about 10 years and it arrived back here playing just the same as it left the last time I saw it!
Repairs included: Previously, I'd given it a good setup and compensation of the saddle for octave stringing with a normal 12-string guitar set. This time around I just had to restring it and set it up. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
