1930s Unmarked German 4/4 Violin
Overview: My friend Forrest used this as a backup fiddle for years and it's got a clean, even, direct sound that's really suited to old-time work. It's unmarked and likely German-made from around the 1920s-1930s. It has a maple fingerboard that was "ebonized" when made, like many of these imports had. The tailpiece has nice decorative elements and it has a one-piece, nicely-flamed-maple back as well. The ruddy "sunburst" finish is distinctive and the rubbed corners give it a binding-like contrast at the edges. It looks great and I can see why he enjoyed this for so many years.
