1970s Gretsch Committee Electric Guitar
I think I briefly set this guitar up years ago, but this time around, Sarah gave it a level/dress and setup job and it's now humming beautifully and clean to boot.
These '70s Gretsch (Baldwin-era) guitars are a little misunderstood out there on the net. Folks have odd opinions of them. My point of view is that this is actually a great guitar but that it's just not a traditional Gretschy offering. It's more of a "hippie neck-through hard rock" sort-of gadget. It's very of its time and the pickup chocies (on the darker, more aggressive side) and hardware choices (heavy duty and with translucent brown plastic parts) are definitely indicators of the player-type they were after with this model.
The neck is accurate, fast, and comfy and the weight, while not brutal, is on the heavier side. It's like picking-up your average '90s Fender Mexico Telecaster or the like. The neck-through construction is rugged and durable and hasn't let this guitar down since it was made. All of the wiring is good-quality stuff and the tuners are nice, too, if sort-of chasing that Daion aesthetic.
Its weirdest bit is the truss rod access which is at the back of the heel.
The body appears to be mahogany and maple laminations and it has a cool, "German carve" to the top edges. The neck is multi-piece maple and mahogany, sort-of like some period Rickenbackers.
