1978 Guild D35 Dreadnought Guitar

This is a local customer's Guild D35 -- basically the company's take on a Martin D-18 -- that was in for service. These make great, punchy, bluegrassy-sounding instruments but usually wind-up in the hands of heavy-handed folksinger or band-leader types. I keep a mental note of these things when folks bring their gear in...

I gave it a neck reset and bridge reglue, as I recall. Max leveled and dressed the frets, made a new saddle, and set it up. I think we had to relocate the bridge pins a little farther aft, too, due to the tallish saddle needed (the top didn't re-deflect up near as much as I thought it would after the bridge reglue). These '70s-onwards Guilds have "dovetail" neck joints that are in reality just tenon joints, too, as there's only about 1 degree of angle to the slots. Because of this it's standard practice in our shop, now, to add two bolts hidden at the neckblock after we reglue the joint just for insurance.
