1926 Martin AK Koa Flatback Mandolin
Overview: How about that flamed koa? We've had a variety of Martin AK mandolins through the shop over the years but there was only one other I've handled with as nice figure in the koa as this one. It's like a beautiful, red-brown firestorm in this one -- and it has that sweet, woody, clean, mellow sound that I love from these koa-topped Martin mandolins. This one has had a little bit of rough living at times, but post-repairs is an excellent player. Kudos to Martin at the time for that pretty, rosewood binding as well.
Repairs included: It got crack re-repairs done to the back (cleats and fill), a fret level/dress, bridge adjustments, cleaning, and setup work. Jose did all of it. It's playing bang-on and ready to serve!

Condition notes: Everything is rather gorgeous except for a large back crack that has been repaired twice, now. Unfortunately, due to the way the first repair was done, it meant that it couldn't be glued flush with itself, but our cleats are sitting on pads of epoxy inside and so are sturdy and will keep it ship-shape. The finish overall has some weather-check throughout and light scratches and scuffs here and there, but really does help all that koa glow nicely. All of its fittings are original.
It comes with: It has a chip case as I recall.
