2012 Sanctus Gattopardo Fine-Quality 4/4 Violin
Overview: The label inside this instrument reads as, "Sanctus Gattopardo Cremonese" and is noted as made in Milan, with the signature of one Sanctus Gattopardo below it. Considering that Sanctus Gattopardo is a mixed Latin/Italian phrase for "Holy Leopard," I think we can assume that this is an alias for the maker. It was sold to the owner (I think by Vermont Violins, he said?) as an instrument made in Italy by a student of a well-known maker's shop.
In any case, it's a high-quality instrument with a lot of attention to detail -- the cut is crisp, accurate, and thoughtful, the fittings are all nice, and the finish is interesting and excellent. The spruce top has tight grain and the flamed maple of the back and sides looks gorgeous in the red/yellow staining of the finish.
Repairs included: Manny gave it a glorified setup and it's playing spot-on and ready to go.
