1950s Kay 3/4 Terz-Style Guitar

This is a customer's guitar that was in for repair. We've worked on a bunch of old Kay 3/4 guitars in the past and this model first came-about in the '40s for the brand and sometimes they come-up with other brand names affixed, too.

This one needed the usual -- a neck reset and level/dress of the frets -- and then I handed it to Ancel to recut the saddle slot, make a new saddle, move the pinholes, and set it up. It's now playing like a champ and has a charming, woody, mellow sound to it that's on the thunkier, old-fashioned side.

These are roughly "terz" scale instruments at 22 3/4" or so and, while this is tuned to standard, it would also be great for use as a Nashville-strung guitar or high-tuned guitar with lighter gauges.

The top is solid spruce, it's ladder-braced, and it has ply mahogany back and sides. The board and bridge are rosewood.
