1968 Fender Telecaster (Refinished) Electric Guitar

Overview: First-off -- gorgeous guitar, no? This is a '68 Tele body and pickups with a '69 neck. The body is refinished and has been lightly-modified to bring it back closer to spec in thickness. I refretted the neck in summer and it's holding-up nicely. Guitar Garage down in Boston put this all together for the owner around the same time that the neck was done. It's a killer player and has the classic, albeit on the sweeter-side, Tele tone.

Original to the guitar:

  • ash body
  • both pickups (7.2k neck, 6.3k bridge)
  • bridge
  • neckplate
  • later 1969 neck (w/original finish)
Vintage but not original:

  • tuners
  • knobs
  • pots are 1966
New but fitting:

  • pickguard
  • neck screws
  • control plate
  • jack and cup
  • switch
  • tone cap
Modified:

  • the refinisher added 1/8" thick ash to the face of the body to make-up for lost depth from multiple previous refinish jobs
  • the finish is blonde over dark grain filler and features lots of "aging" coloration touches, if not direct "relic" work -- it certainly looks vintagey to me!
  • it has a nitro clearcoat that is designed to check more easily/quickly
  • the neck has new frets

Repairs included: Guitar Garage put it together and I'd previously refretted the neck. In addition, I gave it just a hair more setup work -- angling the saddles a bit to get the intonation better -- and a few other tweaks. It's playing bang-on and ready to go.

Condition notes: As noted above, much has been changed and yet much is era-correct. Please read my notes in the description section for clarity. That said, it looks excellent and is in good order, overall. The original finish on the neck (poly back/sides, nitro headstock face) looks great and the refinish job is impeccable.

It comes with: It has a non-original, '90s-style hard case.
