1986 Yamaha FG-465 Jumbo Guitar
Overview: Yet another venerable Yamaha! This model was apparently only made in 1986 and it was the higher-end of the foodchain at the time. It's basically a normal, all-ply, Yamaha jumbo but with upgraded trim -- the top, back, and sides are all ply, figured sycamore and it has nice, faux-pearl inlay at the top edge and soundhole, upgraded board inlay, and binding at all edges. As you'd expect, it sounds big and full and perfect for a chord-slinging backup machine or fingerpicker -- but with a thinner top-end that makes it not ideal for a flatpicker's lead machine. This is very typical for Yamaha jumbos with ply tops.
That said, I think this same basic design (first built in the late '60s) has proven its capabilities -- these are practical, sturdy, good-sounding, easy-to-live-with guitars and I recommend them all the time to players up here.
Repairs included: Molly gave it a level/dress of the frets and setup work. It's playing spot-on and ready to go!
