1880s Unmarked 5-String Banjola



Overview: I worked-on and sold this to my friend Forrest many moons ago. He brought it back and sure-enough, my buddy Ivan picked it up from me before I could even list it! More details can be read-about on the original 2016 post (click for link)...


Repairs included: Previously, I'd done a bunch.

  • Nut width: 1 9/32"
  • Neck shape: medium-full V
  • Board radius: flat
  • Depth at first fret: 0.77"
  • Depth at seventh fret: 0.95"
  • Top diameter: 11 5/8"
  • Depth overall body: 2 3/4"
  • Top: solid spruce
  • Back and sides: solid maple 
  • Bridge: maple
  • Fretboard: mahogany-like
  • Neck wood: mahogany-like in look (butternut?)
  • Action height at 12th fret: 3/32” overall (fast, spot-on)
  • String gauges: fluorocarbon (nylon-style, Nylgut would be good)
  • Neck relief: straight
  • Fret style: medium-lower
