1950s Karl Meisel 4/4 German Violin
This is a customer's Meisel violin that is likely a '50s or '60s build, judging by the label. It's got a clean, crisp quality about its construction and the sound is even, sweet, and balanced. It's a good-looking instrument and, post-repairs, plays spot-on.
Manny had to do a bit of work to get this one going. It had the usual stuff wrong with it (loose seams, a fingerboard in need of a plane, need for a good bridge and setup and whatnot) but it also needed its neck reset. That was more of an issue, as the back was torn-out where the neck meets it. Manny painstakingly built-up the joint to get it tight and then, after resetting the neck as-normal, pinned it with a 1/4" dowel to make sure it will remain sturdy.
He did a great job, as usual, and the instrument is now fit for service and ready to go on new adventures.
