1965 Favilla F-6 00-Size Guitar

Friend of the shop, Paul, is a big fan of old Favillas and these 00-size, fan-braced, steel-string models remind me a lot of Yamaha FG-75 models (which share similar specs), though the solid woods of the Favillas and their nicer neck profiles definitely sound and feel better. It was no surprise when he showed-up here with maybe the third example of one of these he's brought-in.

This one's repairs were a joint venture -- I reset the neck and filled and recut the saddle slot and bridge pinholes. I think Molly leveled and dressed the frets and Jacobi and Jose made a new saddle, cut and fit a repro pickguard, and set it up.

It's a nice player and excels as a fingerpicker. We've kept the strings at 47w-10 gauges because the tops on these are lightly-braced and the necks not reinforced very much. They don't need a lot of tension to shine, either. These have medium-heft, C-shaped necks with flat fretboards, usually, and feel a little bit like throwbacks to '40s instruments.
