1950s Kay 2-Point Archtop Mandolin
Overview: This is one of the cleanest examples of this style of old Kay mandolin that I've had through the shop. It's got all of the stuff, too -- a solid top (many of these are ply), checker-style binding, spiffy flamed maple on the back and sides, and the script-style Kay medallion. It has a warmer, sweeter tone than usual but still plenty of volume and cut. The neck is quicker than usual for this style of instrument. While this is loud enough for smaller bluegrass jamming, the tone is sweeter and it's much better-suited to old-time, country blues, Celtic styles, and the like.
Repairs included: It got a neck rest from Tim, a fret level/dress and side dots job from Jacobi, and a setup and tweaks from Jose. It's playing spot-on and ready to go!
