2000s Rainsong OM1000 Carbon Fiber Acoustic Guitar
Overview: I work-on and sell a lot of guitars for very traditional players and they scoff at Rainsongs as the feeling is, generally, that "wood is the way." I've got to be honest, though, and say that I've always thought that, of all the carbon-fiber-topped brands, Rainsongs get the closest to the feel and tone of a good-quality, flattop guitar. With your eyes closed, I think it would be hard to pick this out from the mix of other, fancy-grade, 000-size guitars we have on the walls at the moment.
It definitely has a certain look, though -- like Darth Vader goes to Hawaii with its shark inlays and giant abalone soundhole rosette on a background of carbon-fiber-weave. This particular one was made while the firm was in Hawaii. The playing feel is slick and accurate and these tend to have a balanced sound with a bit of that "Martin-style" scoop to the harshness of treble notes. It sounds sweet on the highs but still loud.
Repairs included: I just needed to give it the very lightest setup adjustments. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
