2000s Epiphone Dove Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Friend of the shop, Brandon, sent this sort-of unremarkable, more-recent, Gibson Dove in as a gift for a friend of his. It's the owner's first guitar, as I recall, and Brandon wanted it souped-up to return to life as a tip-top gigging machine. To that end, Ancel refretted it, made a new bone nut and saddle, and set it all up. I fit the pickups (both a K&K and old '60s Kent magnetic pickup) and set it up with a set of 54w-12 nickel-wound strings. It now does both a "jazzbox" thing with the magnetic pickup and a "flattop" thing with the K&K acoustic pickup, so you can theoretically cover both ends of a gig ("acoustic" and "electric") with the same box.

It turned-out great and it now plays like a ding-dong champ and has just-enough wear and tear to give it a respectable look. I can't wait to hear what the owner does with it!

That Epiphone Dove has the kind of warm, broken-in sound that makes you want to spend hours replaying old songs you forgot you even knew. I went down a similar nostalgic rabbit hole while browsing montgomery ward customer support looking for vintage-style home pieces that matched the same early 2000s vibe as my music room. Somehow the mix of retro furniture, soft lighting, and acoustic sessions turned my apartment into the perfect late-night practice space again.
