2000s Unmarked Korean 4/4 Violin
Overview: This is a simple, no-frills, decent-sounding, student-level instrument. It's unmarked but reminds me a lot of Korean-made instruments of the '90s and early '00s that have been in and out of the shop from time to time. It has a few quirky features -- like faux-flame, painted-on "figure" in the back and sides maple -- that remind me of Depression-era Harmony and Jackson Guldan instruments. It's funny to see the same recipe followed 70+ years later.
Repairs included: Manny planed and dressed the fingerboard, fit a bridge, cleaned it up, and set it up. Originally the fingerboard was painted black, but we thought the grain and color of the wood underneath (not ebony but something like rosewood) was interesting enough to keep "natural" after the fingerboard work. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
