2021 Taylor T5Z Classic 12 String Semihollow Acoustic/Electric Guitar
Overview: These newer T5z models are lightweight, comfy, and more compact compared to the earlier standard T5 models that I'm more used to. This 12-string version is very cool and will get you all the jingle-jangle you could desire but, if attacked like you mean it and on the right setting, will get you some of that thumpy, Leadbelly stuff as well. I didn't play this into a compressor with some reverb in the demo, but it can get close to the Byrds vibe if that's your flavor, too. All that and -- acoustic sounds as well? Straight into Zeppelin territory? Why not...
Ramble aside, this is a well-built guitar with an understated, modern look and a good, quick feel to it. The body is lightweight and the satin finish looks great on the mahogany. The demo video is not the best example of the guitar's tone as it's being put through a simple vintage tube amp, but it gives you an idea. A better match might be something cleaner and wider-sounding like a Roland JC or the like so more of the acoustic shimmer can be heard. I did put it through an acoustic amp and it had a great sound for more of the acoustic settings but lacked some of that guitar-amp punch and... slur? ...when playing lead work.
Repairs included: I just needed to give it a quick setup and wipe-down. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
