1960s Silvertone 1420 Semihollow Electric Guitar (Modded)

I've worked on 1420s in the past (these are basically Silvertone-branded Harmony Stratotone) but this was one of the most mucked-up ones I've seen yet. It arrived with what looked like original pickups but they turned-out to be wonky '80s Strat pickups glued under the original covers and quite deceased besides the point.

The owner sent me a couple of same-period, DeArmond pickups that would have been of the type in the next-up-the-rung Harmony hollowbody models to install, instead. I did so, fitting the rosewood shims for them to match what this body needed, and then edited the original wiring harness to remove excess capacitors (installed at the factory -- which dull the tone) and cleaned-up the wiring path overall. Other work included a level/dress of the frets (done by Sarah eons ago, as I recall), making/fitting a new (compensated) saddle in rosewood, and setting it all up -- as well as the usual cleaning and whatnot.

The end result is, essentially, a lower-rent Stratotone Jupiter with more down-home looks and a great vibe. I like!
