1967 Hagstrom H-11 00-Size Guitar

Overview: This is the third time I've posted on this guitar since 2019 as I've gone about updating its life story, hee hee. It was made by Bjarton in Sweden for the Hagstrom brand and is roughly the same size and shape as a Gibson B-25 from the same time. It has the cool, aluminum-housed truss rod used on other Hagstrom products and as a result, the neck is nice and stable and it has easy truss adjustment access at the soundhole.

Soundwise, these are warm, woody, and balanced and work beautifully both for fingerpicking and flatpicking. It's got a fan-braced top which gives more warmth compared to ladder-bracing. It also doesn't hurt that it looks great, too -- in a skewed, Gibson-esque sort-of way.

Repairs included: This time around, I just needed to let the truss rod out a hair and restring it. It's been stable in service since I last saw it (around 2022?) and in good health. Previously, I'd done a bunch to it -- repairing loose seams and a loose neckblock, a level/dress of the frets, light bridge shave and conversion to a drop-in-saddle bridge rather than a funky through-saddle setup, new saddle, crack repairs to the top, and finally the installation of an internal aluminum rod pinned at both the neckblock and endblock that stiffens the whole body. Because of the way the necks are fit on these (the whole neck is fit into a slot cut into the top), they tend to have the same "cave-in" problem as bolt-on Fender acoustics from the '60s. That was solved by a metal tube in the Fenders and that's solved here by this aluminum dowel. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
