1970s Greek Trichordo Bouzouki

As a fan of Alec Finn's bouzouki playing, I have the sound of 3-course, 6-string bouzouki all over the inside of my skull. I've been keeping an eye out for one for ages and never found one cheap enough (because I know almost all old bouzoukis are mostly in somewhat-trashed shape) until this one came around. I snagged it and it came with the benefit of a set of recently-installed StewMac "Golden Age" tuners as well. Yip!

It needed a board plane, refret, hairline crack repair, and setup work to get it at its best and at the same time I also installed a dowel (painted black) that connects the neckblock to endblock and is pinned at either side so as to take some excess tension off the body (old Greek zouks tend to want to implode). Post-repairs, it sounds like a champ and I've been having fun learning some new chord shapes and whatnot so I can play most of my songs in any key (as long as I've got a capo handy). It's been nice to be learning something new and familiar.

The best bit about any bouzouki experience, with their long necks free from the body, is that they're sort of two-for-one instruments -- something like a mandola or octave mandolin from frets 0-12 and a mandolin (complete with a ~13" scale) above that. I call that winning...!
